    E.U.P. Michigan Works! Employment Services

Employment services in the Eastern Upper Peninsula have, like many agencies, experienced cuts in funding, while being asked to do more. We continue to annually process around 3,000 unemployment claimants who are registering for work. There are also approximately 2,000 individual log-ins for those utilizing the Sault Resource room facilities. Additionally, we process several thousand clients each a year for partnering agencies. New Programs such as Re-employment Services, and emphasis on Resume Assistance and Specific Local Marketing Information counseling are also a part of our daily tasks.

Individuals and businesses are taking advantage of the latest computer technology when looking for a job or an employee. The full service Michigan Works! Center at 1118 E. Easterday, Sault Ste. Marie, and the branches in Newberry and St. Ignace, have become the focal point for our labor exchange system. To complete the package of one-stop services, the following partnering agencies are available at the Sault location: The Unemployment Agency, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Veteran's E.S./Services, WIA programs for youth, adult, and displaced workers, and Work First programs.

We continue to see budget constraints, and ever evolving systems of delivering employment services. While change is inevitable, you can be sure that someone will be there to fill both job seeker and employer needs.
